BIBA Research, the UK-based leading provider of market intelligence for the medical device industry, has launched the first Transcatheter Heart Valve Monitor in Europe, as a part of their long-established European Cardiovascular Monitor (ECVM).
The Monitor has surveyed 295 hospitals in 15 countries and represents the first extensive, independent investigation on market size and penetration of transcatheter heart valve replacement and repair technologies in Western Europe.
The monitor highlights the characteristics and differences of transcatheter heart valve procedures (Aortic replacement, Mitral repair, Pulmonary replacement) from country to country, as well as different techniques (Transfemoral, Transapical, Subclavian) within the Aortic replacement segment. The Monitor also estimates the usage of transcatheter heart valves in reference to valve size and device manufacturers.
Transcatheter (also known as percutaneous) heart valve replacement is a new therapy to treat valve stenosis which is growing in popularity in Western Europe. The market is predicted to grow substantially over the coming years, as physicians become more familiar with the technique and the possible extension of patient profiles. The percutaneous implantation of a pulmonary valve in men was reported for the first time in 2000. The percutaneous valve replacement procedure in aortic stenosis was performed for the first time in 2002.
“I am delighted by the launch of our new research service in one of the most exciting areas of medical technology today", said Stephen Greenhalgh, managing Director at BIBA Medical. "This new service is now available for Q2 and will continue henceforth. Although there are just a very few players at the moment, this market is set for substantial growth”.
With the launch of the Transcatheter Heart Valve Monitor, BIBA Research cover every field of medical device interest in vascular and cardiovascular. The European Cardiovascular Monitor (ECVM) looks at procedural data and market share dynamics within the interventional cardiology and the cardiac surgery markets – producing four distinct reports: PCI Western Europe, PCI Eastern Europe, Cardiac Surgery, and the new Transcatheter Heart Valve.
